Prison Puppy Foster Volunteers Needed in Western Wisconsin
Can Do Canines is starting its fifth prison puppy training program at the Stanley Correctional Institution in Stanley, Wis. The first litter of puppies will be entering the prison in late February. In order for the program to succeed, local volunteers are needed twice a month to provide “furloughs” for the prison puppies and work on social skills, house manners and help socialize the puppies outside of the prison. You helped fetch $124,000 for Can Do Canines!
On Saturday, December 5, more than 300 guests helped fetch more than $124,000 to train Can Do Canines for people with disabilities. The funds were raised at our 2015 Fetching Ball held at the Doubletree by Hilton in Bloomington. Thank you to all in attendance who helped support our important work! At the event attendees played games, drank dog-tini’s and heard from program graduates about how an assistance dog has changed their lives. Thank you to ALL who participated in last year’s Paws for Thought Campaign in honor of Give to the Max Day. By sending in photos of your dogs with messages of support, Can Do Canines surpassed its 2014 Give to the Max day goal of $25,000 and raised an impressive $41,000! You made our Woofaroo a howling success!
More than 182 walkers and 86 dogs and 90 volunteer came out to the 2015 Can Do Woofaroo! We just finished tabulating the totals and we raised more than $60,000. That’s enough to fund two new assistance dog teams! Slammer’s Supporter, the top fundraising team brought in $2,218 and the top fundraising individual, Holly Fitzenberger brought in $3,000. Wow!
