Name a Puppy

Puppy with TBD dog tag on it's collar

What’s it going to be … Fido? Fluffy? Fonzie? You choose by naming one of our assistance dogs!

The Name-A-Puppy program is a flexible program that can be tailored to any school, individual or business. The length of the fundraising program can be as short as one day to as long as several months. Contact Janet Cobus at jcobus@candocanines.org to learn more!

What to do?

Individuals

  • Raise or donate a minimum of $3,000 toward the program.
  • Contact our office to register and receive your “Name-A-Puppy” fundraising materials if you need them.
  • Name a puppy as a gift in honor of, or in memory of, a family member, friend, or pet.
  • Use this opportunity to involve your friends or family in “giving back” to the community.

Businesses

  • Raise or donate a minimum of $3,000 toward the program.
  • Contact our office to register and receive your “Name-A-Puppy” fundraising materials.
  • Create a “sense of team” by involving your employees in the fundraising process. We can help with ideas to make it fun!
  • Pay for a sponsorship in honor of your employees. Display the photograph and certificate in a prominent place and your employees can take pride in this gift all year long.

Schools or Youth Groups

  • Raise or donate a minimum of $1,500 toward the program.
  • Create friendly competitions among classes, grades, or neighboring schools.
  • Ask for donations instead of presents for your birthday and donate to the Name a Puppy program – what a great birthday present!

 What do you get?

  • You get the honor of Naming a Puppy!
  • A framed photograph of the puppy in its training cape.
  • Acknowledgement in our online annual report.
  • An invitation to your puppy's graduation.
  • An opportunity to tour our facility or to have a demonstration dog visit your school, business or group and show your team his or her skills.
  • Pride in giving back to your community – have a great feeling of helping train a special dog to assist a person in need.
  • All levels will receive “puppy progress reports” twice a year throughout the training period.
  • Your donation is tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

How can your group get involved?

Set up a fundraising page and download a Name-A-Puppy brochure or contact Can Do Canines for more information and fundraising materials:

Please note: There is no guarantee that your named puppy will graduate as a Can Do Canines assistance dog. Dogs may be selected to be part of our elite breeding stock, "career changed" to alternate careers, or live a life as a pet dog with an adoptive family for health reasons. Only one Can Do Canines puppy will be named per Name-a-Puppy submission regardless of outcome. Since each litter is assigned names according to a letter of the alphabet, this may cause a delay in the naming of the puppy.
