Dog Hiking Location Tips

andrew-spencer-1_tk2XEFEiE-unsplash

The opportunity to hike among the fall leaves is just around the corner. So we asked you about places in Minnesota or Wisconsin you would recommend taking four-legged friends with you on a hike. Here are the responses.

In addition to finding a great trail to hike, you'll want to make certain you have the essentials on hand for your furry friend. Be sure to pack water and a collapsable bowl, poop bags, a dog first-aid kit, a leash, a collar, and an ID tag in case you get separated.

Big Willow

11522 Minnetonka Blvd, Hopkins, MN 55305

Quiet, beautiful, well-maintained trails, follow Minnehaha Creek, local. -Jenny

Lowry Nature Center Trails

7025 Victoria Drive, Victoria, MN 55386

There are many trails to choose from (both paved and unpaved) around ponds and bogs and some even have floating bridges -which are always a fun, new surface for the dogs to try. - Julie

Pike Island—Fort Snelling State Park

Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center, Saint Paul, MN 55111

Flat, river views, in the middle of the Twin Cities but doesn't feel like it. -Mike

Whitetail Woods Regional Park

17100 Station Trail, Farmington, Minnesota 55024

This is a great Regional Park that offers a variety of trail options year around. We've hiked this park year around in the fall, winter, spring and summer. It has a variety of areas from prairie, forest/woods around a lake. Also, you can choose the length of the hike you'd like to do. There are shaded trails too when it's needed on a warmer day. - Diana
