Client Equipment & Supplies

Equipment

All handlers will receive team-specific equipment for safe and successful public access.

  • Can Do Canines Cape

  • Leash attachment

  • Collar and ID tag (additional identification tags available for purchase)

  • Other walking equipment (such as harness or head collar)

    • Gentle Leader Guide: Learn how to properly fit a Gentle Leader and put it on the dog correctly.

    • Halti Head Collar Guide: Learn how to properly fit a Halti Head Collar and put it on the dog correctly.

    • Halti No-Pull Harness Guide: Learn how to fit the Halti No-Pull Body Harness .

Tried and true suggested products designed to make life easier when handler mobility is limited. These elective items pair with those already provided by Can Do Canines.

  • “Magic Latch” Leash Connector: One touch, quick release, magnetic collar to leash connector.

  • Wheelchair Loop: Easily slide the leash attachment on and off with this open loop.

  • Phone Loops: Make cell phone retrieval easier by attaching a loop.

  • Assistance Dog Leash Wrap: Leash wraps can help create more visibility for working dogs.

Supplies

Prepare for your assistance dog’s arrival by stocking these supplies once you’ve begun training:

  • 2 stainless steel bowls for food and water

  • Travel water bowl (silicone, fabric, or water bottle combination)

  • Enzymatic toothpaste for dogs and finger brush or ultra soft baby toothbrush

  • Package of cotton rounds or large cotton balls

  • Food storage container (airtight and food grade)

  • Pet waste bags

  • Fish oil supplement (capsules or liquid)

  • Emergency clean-up kit: large ziplock bag with travel package of unscented wipes, 5 paper towels and second large ziplock bag to place dirty items.

Can Do Canines will provide the following care supplies to new teams upon placement:

  • Nylabone Dura Chew Souper Size

  • KONG dog toy

  • Trial-size bottle of ear cleaner

  • 4-month supply of heartworm and flea/tick preventatives

  • Training mat

  • Small treat pouch

  • Initial bag of food (33 pound)

  • Kennel

Following placement, you may wish to consider purchasing other supplies. Please refrain from purchasing these items until you have a chance to discuss your needs and the needs of your dog with client services.

  • Grooming supplies:

    • Rubber curry brush: best for dogs with low to no undercoat; safe for daily use

    • Undercoat rake: best for dogs with heavy undercoat or non shedding dogs

    • Comb: safe for all types

    • Pet dremel or scissor-style nail trimmer (trimmers must be replaced when no longer sharp)

    • Styptic powder

  • Additional toys (these brands may hold up a bit better, based on what we’ve experienced in the facility):

  • Car harness options:
