Kennel Staff Job Description (P/T)

Overview

Become part of the Can Do Canines pack! Can Do Canines is a non-profit dedicated to transforming people’s lives by enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities by creating mutually beneficial partnerships with specially trained assistance dogs.

Job Summary: Provide excellent care for our dogs at our facility
Classification:
Non-Exempt, Hourly
Hourly Rate: $14+/hour
Hours Required: Part Time - weekend shifts of 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.-1 p.m. On average, 2-3 weekends per month and some holidays on a rotating schedule are required. Approximately 5-15 hours per week, across 1-3 shifts.

Relationships

Reports to: Kennel Manager
Positions Supervised: None
Frequent Interactions With: Kennel Staff, Program Trainers

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Feed and care for our program dogs at our facility*
  • Conduct heavy-duty cleaning of kennels and other various cleaning tasks*
  • Manage groups of dogs for exercise time*
  • Bathe and groom dogs. Administer various medications as needed*
  • Feed, clean up after, and care for two facility cats* 

*Denotes essential functions of job

Required Qualifications

Education: None

Experience: 

  • 1+ year experience working with dogs
  • Must be over the age of 18
  • Have a hardworking and positive attitude and a love for dogs
  • Demonstrated reliability and excellent attendance record
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: 2+ years experience with dogs in a kennel environment 

Expected Working Conditions

1. Exposure to dog and cat dander: Daily
2. Exposure to dog and cat feces: Daily
3. Work directly with dogs and cats: Daily
4. Exposure to cleaning chemicals: Daily
5. Use cleaning tools: Hose, squeegee, mops, brooms, vacuum cleaner, etc.: Daily
6. Work outdoors in all weather conditions: Daily
7. Work in public environment, sometimes in retail: Never
8. Work in prison environment: Never
9. Work in office environment: Rarely
10. Perform work using a computer: Occasionally
11. Heavy lifting, up to 30 pounds: Daily
12. Heavy lifting, 30 pounds or more: Daily
13. Stoop, crawl, kneel, rise from a prone or kneeling position: Daily
14. Sit for long periods of time: Rarely
15. Stand for long periods of time: Daily
16. Work in small or cramped spaces: Occasionally
17. Perform work using a telephone: Sometimes
18. Work with clients: Never
19. Work with parties external to the organization: Rarely
20. Work with volunteers: Regularly
21. Drive organizational vehicles: Rarely
22. Handle checks, cash, credit card transactions: Never
23. Public Speaking: Never
